Changing the Gear Oil Ninebot PTR Elite and PTR E Plus

(Ninebot Elite PTR left side gearbox after removing: hubcap, wheel assembly, and fender)
Maintenance Periodicity:
- 3 Months or 1,243 miles (2,000km)
- 1 Year or 3,107 miles (5,000km)
- 2 Years or 6,214 miles (10,000km)
- 3 Years or 9,320 miles (15,000km)
- Then every 6 months or 1,864 miles (3,000km)
What you’ll need:
1. Table to work on
2. Small Flathead Screwdriver
3. Ratchet Wrench with 10mm Socket
4. 4mm Allen Wrench or Ninebot Tool # F0014-4.0
5. 10 Fluid oz. (300ml), (150ml per gearbox) of SAE 75W-80 Gear Oil
(For performance purposes and to avoid voiding your warranty use only SAE 75W-80
Gear Oil)
6. Tray or pan to catch the drained oil
7. Paper Towels
8. Support material to keep the PTR slightly elevated
9. If your Gear Oil containers spout is too large, you may need a small funnel
SAFETY: Before you start, please remove the Operation Bar, and the Battery.
Set these items aside and out of the way
Once the operation bar and battery have been stowed away from your work area,
stand the PTR up so that one wheel is flat-facing the table, and the other wheel is
facing the ceiling.
Use the small Flathead screwdriver to gently remove the hubcap. Doing so will
expose three (3) lugnuts and bolts.
Next, using the ratchet wrench with the 10mm socket, remove the lugnuts. Once
the lugnuts are removed you may find that the wheel seems to be stuck. If this
happens, gently tap the wheel from the underside in an upward movement. This
will break it free so it can be removed. Remove the wheel assembly and set it
aside.
Now you’ll need the 4mm Allen wrench Ninebot Tool #
F0014-4.0 to remove the four (4)
screws holding the fender in place. Once it’s removed, set it aside.
Gently lower the Elite PTR so the foot mat is parallel to the floor, as shown in
the picture above.
Carefully place the support material underneath the PTR to keep it slightly
elevated. With the battery removed the rear decorative (plastic) strip can be
easily damaged. Be aware of this when placing support material under the Elite
PTR.
The gearbox should be slightly lower than the opposite side of the PTR. This
will facilitate the draining of the gear oil.
Place your tray or pan in an optimal position to be able to catch the oil as it
drains.
Next remove the ‘Oil Fill’ and ‘Oil Drain’ screws (in that order). You are
removing the ‘Oil Fill’ screw first help facilitate the draining of the oil.
Again, be sure that you have your tray or pan in place to catch the oil prior to
removing the ‘Oil Drain’ screw.
Once the oil has finished draining from your PTRs gearbox, replace the ‘Oil
Drain’ screw and tighten.
Please safely dispose of the oil according to your local regulations.
Add the new gear oil via the ‘Oil Fill’ opening. Then replace ‘Oil Fill’ screw, and
tighten.
Use the paper towels to clean up any spilled oil. Clean any oil, or oil residue
off of the Elite PTR. Check the battery compartment to ensure that there is no
oil or oil residue present. If there is any sign of oil or residue on the
Elite PTR, especially in the battery compartment, clean with light soap and damp
paper towels.
Ensure that the battery compartment is completely dry and free of any oil or oil
residue before reinstalling the battery.
Stand the PTR up so that the wheel is facing flat on the table, and the gearbox is facing the ceiling.
Use the 4mm Allen wrench or Ninebot tool,
and the four (4) screws to
re-install the fender.
Retrieve the wheel and align the bolts with the holes on the wheel assembly. Set
it into place.
Get your ratchet wrench, 10mm socket, and three (3) lugnuts. Lightly and
sequentially tighten them until they are all secure. Use caution to not
over-tighten the lugnuts. Over tightening can cause the lugnuts and/or bolts to strip, or the
bolts may break. The bolts are neither replaceable nor repairable. If the bolts
get stripped or break, the gearbox will need to be replaced.
Lastly, replace the hubcap.
Congratulations!
You’re now ready to repeat above steps for the 2nd gearbox.
